Numbers and numerology have long been a pillar for all types of metaphysics practices.
The number 9 is often known as the one single number that would connect the tangible world with the intangible. And it just seems so appropriate that this number plays such a prominent role in feng shui mathematics.
If you are a skeptic to how “magical” the number 9 is, and remains an immovable one after reading this article, then it’s safe to say that you’d probably never be convinced otherwise.
In this discussion, we will explore some universal laws of numbers, then move on to a deeper dive into the number in feng shui and period 9.
Let’s start with some very amusing ways the number 9 makes it’s presence felt in mathematics.
If a circle is cut in half, each half would be 180°. 1+8+0 = 9
If it is cut into 4 equal quarters, each quarter would be 90°. 9+0 = 9
If we further cut each quarter in half, each piece would be 45°. 4+5 = 9
No matter how many times you cut it in half, the resulting number will be nine.
From the most basic polygon of triangle to nonagon and beyond, all angles (vertex) add up to 9.
A triangle’s angle is 60°. 60×3 = 180. 1+8+0 = 9
A square’s angle is 90°. 90×4 = 360. 3+6+0 = 9
A pentagon’s angle is 108°. 108×5 = 540. 5+4 = 9
A hexagon’s angle is 120°. 120×6 = 720. 7+2=9
Keep adding additional sides to the polygon and we would achieve the same result.
All the multiples of 9 adds up to 9.
9×78 = 702. 7+0+2 = 9
9×4518 = 40662. 4+0+6+6+2 = 18. 1+8 = 9
9×12548 = 112932. 1+1+2+9+3+2 = 18. 1+8 = 9
Any random number minus a smaller number made up of the same digits will result in 9.
7232-3227 = 4005. 4+0+0+5 = 9
7232-2237 = 4995. 4+9+9+5 = 27. 2+7 = 9
Is all these a coincidence? Or is the number 9 the one number that holds the secret to the universe? Maybe that’s why there are 9 periods in Xuan Kong feng shui?
If we are to draw up a 9×9 grid and input the numbers in sequence from 1 to 81 the below table is what we get.
Any row or column, add the numbers together and we would end up with 9.
5th row: 37+38+39+40+41+42+43+44+45 = 369. 3+6+9 = 18. 1+8 = 9
6th column: 6+15+24+33+42+51+60+69+78 = 378. 3+7+8 = 18. 1+8 = 9
Diagonal from bottom left: 73+65+57+49+41+33+25+17+9 = 369. 3+6+9 = 18. 1+8 = 9
If we are to add up the single numbers together, we will still end up with 9.
2nd row: 1+0+1+1+1+2+1+3+1+4+1+5+1+6+1+7+1+8 = 45. 4+5 = 9
3rd column: 3+1+2+2+1+3+0+3+9+4+8+5+7+6+6+7+5 = 72. 7+2 = 9
Let’s take it up a notch and multiply all the numbers of any row, column or diagonal. Add up the numbers what do you get? It all comes to the number 9.
How about I stretch your patience for a little longer and illustrate a 9×9 times table like the above There is a point to this. So pay attention.
If we add up the numbers of the grids with 2-digit numbers, we get the below.
Because 9 belongs to the parent string 3-6-9, highlight all the grids with 3, 6 and 9 and we get the below.
It is claimed that even Nicola Tesla said “If you knew the magnificence of 3, 6 and 9, you would have a key to the universe.”
Does the image above seem familiar to you? The luo shu grid appears.
Also notice how the 1-4-7 and 2-5-8 parent strings line up perfectly in an orderly sequence inside the 4-grid squares. It’s like they make up the earth and 3-6-9 is the fabric of space that holds everything together.
This table above is by itself a paradox. And you would be able to find a number of eerie symmetries within it. But my point so far is to present to you that the number 9 is a special number not just in feng shui, but in the broader study of the universe.
Which is a big reason why it is often said in feng shui that the star 9 is the one that is connected to spirituality, a higher power, or even higher dimensions.
It is the number that connects everything together and allows things to go full circle, and go again.
The period 9 that would arrive in 2024 is the period where everything comes together. Like how Infinity War brought all the Marvel heroes together.
This does not mean that one would get even more wealth energy than period 8. It means that the weightage is more evenly spread in diverse aspects of life.
And this is also reflected in the mystifying symmetry we find on period 9 charts.
If you study the period 9 charts closely, you’d realize that all charts and all grids will have mountain stars and water stars that add up to the timely number 9. This is the one and only period where this occurs.
This means that all pairs of mountain and water stars in period 9 will be:
- 1-8, 8-1
- 2-7, 7-2
- 3-6, 6-3
- 4-5, 5-4
Meanings of flying star combinations can be found here.
Yet don’t think that the symmetrical unity of period 9 charts make them all auspicious. It just means that you’d be able to draw energy at it’s purest form when you call upon them.
You still need to use the chart competently to do so.
The 2-7 and 7-2 combination has a special relationship in the rivermap chart that represents partnerships and invokes the fire element. So where it is situated in the house, and how it is managed, can either mean a potential for extraordinary good fortune, or all out disaster.
While any veteran feng shui master would usually insist that there are no flying star natal charts that are better than another, there is clearly a best facing for period 9 chart if we compare them purely from a chart perspective. For new homes with new occupants from period 9 commencing on 4 February 2024, the best direction to face is S1. This is assuming an ideal scenario of forms and floorplan.
Beginners might not be able to see what this chart represents immediately, but old timers should be able to observe that this is a 7 star robbery chart with double timely stars in front as facing. Right at where the south direction of the timely star is positioned.
The number 9 is also associated with the phoenix because the celestial creature has it’s spiritual home at the south according to landform feng shui. This is why a lot of marketers will be using the phoenix as a mascot symbol for upcoming period 9.
There are no pure parent string and pearl string natal charts for period 9.
Nevertheless, do note that having this chart for your house does not necessarily mean good feng shui. It just means that it has huge potential for good feng shui. Proper layouts and external forms still has to be present for the chart to be activated to harness it’s full power.
A house with a unique layout could very well benefit more from feng shui with a different chart than the one facing S1 above. It depends on how it is used.
Period 9 also brings about a shift in the practice of flying stars feng shui in terms of how the black star 2 is perceived. This star, which is often labelled as the sickness star, is generally one to avoid in feng shui. However, it’s status reverts to one of future prosperity during period 9.
So care must be taken when analyzing flying star charts in this period to determine when the black star is an unfavorable star and when it is a favorable star.
