The southeast is well-known as one of the default wealth locations in a home as it is where the Sun trigram resides.
But even when this is so, it’s seldom one of the preferred facing directions of home seekers as most people prefer to have homes that run along the vertical axis of the cardinal directions consisting of north and south.
But a house that faces north or south does not necessarily mean that they enjoy good feng shui. And the same can be said of properties that faces southeast.
In feng shui every seemingly bad house has it’s lucky areas and every good house is going to have it’s fair share of unlucky areas.
Let’s look more closely at a southeast facing house.
Bagua map
One of the cardinal rules of applying feng shui to a house is to identify the orientation in terms of directions. This is so that one can determine where specific trigrams are located within the premises.
According to the bagua, there are 8 trigrams that take position in each of the 8 main directions as identified by a magnetic compass.
For any household that consist of a married couple, two areas that must be paid particular attention to are the northwest and the southwest.
This is because the Chien and Kun trigrams are located in these two areas respectively.
The Chien area governs the luck of the husband while the Kun area dictates the luck of the wife.
Should any of these areas become afflicted, like when a toilet is located at the southwest, then it can be a catalyst for dire consequences. In this case, the general luck of the patriarch is going to go down the toilet. Literally.
At least with bad luck, one can find ways to cure and reverse it with feng shui.
But if the northwest is a missing corner of an apartment for example, there won’t be any luck at all for the man of the house to work with!
This is one big reason why missing corners can cause serious feng shui issues, and square houses are always recommended.
However, it must be noted that any adverse impact can be much less severe if a house with a missing northwest is inhabited by a single woman. It’s not going to cause major catastrophe to the female owner, but might negatively affect her opportunities in meeting eligible men.
However, these problems can be navigated with other feng shui concepts that attract romance luck.
But for a single female in a house with a missing southwest, it can be disastrously inauspicious.
Because the house faces southeast, which is supposed to be a wealth area, should the front door be at the southeast sector of the home facing southeast?
Let’s look at it’s 8 mansions chart.
8 mansions
8 mansions feng shui is a way for us to generate an energy map of a house so as to determine auspicious and inauspicious sectors on the floor plan.
There are 8 different types of houses, each having it’s own energy map.
For a house facing southeast, it would be sitting northwest. And thus, would have the below diagram as the energy map.
From the illustration above, take note that the favorable sectors are SC, FW, TY and YN. The unfavorable sectors are 5G, 6K, HH and JM.
Good sectors are suitable for living spaces such as the living room, dining room and bedrooms. Bad sectors are appropriate for other spaces such as missing sectors, toilets and storerooms.
The kitchen has a unique feature that requires it to be at a bad sector.
As can be observed, the front area of the house that makes up the south, southeast and east are all undesirable sections of the house.
This means that if the front door is located in any of these areas, it would only allow negative energy to enter the property instead of positive energy.
Good or bad?
For a landed house, the best entrance into the house might be at the southwest or northeast.
Because the areas of SC and FW are towards the back of the home, it can be deduced that the entering the home from the back might actually be the preferred entry way.
This implies that apartments might be more suited for a southeast facing compared to landed houses since it is very common for apartments to have their front doors at the rear of the unit.
It would be auspicious for an apartment in this configuration to have the main door either at the west or northwest.
But let’s double-check these finding with another widely practiced feng shui concept.
Flying stars
Flying stars feng shui is one of the most dynamic school of thought in feng shui as it accounts for the time dimension.
When we view a house through the lens of flying star feng shui, we can see whether it concurs with the findings of 8 mansions.
For a house built during the period of 8 and faces southeast directly, the below natal chart would apply.
Of the 4 auspicious sectors identified by 8 mansions for the location of the front door, it can be observed from the above chart that flying stars don’t agree with the west as it has the misfortune star 5 as the water star at the top right of the west grid.
However, the other 4 directional sectors of southwest, northeast and northwest are fine as main door locations.
And if you live in a south east facing house and the main door has to be at the front of the house instead of from the side, this natal shows that the southeast and east would be acceptable as opposed to what 8 mansions indicate.
Whether to locate a door here is a decision that you have to make for yourself.
The south area looks like a total loss area which the two feng shui theories agree with. The middle daughter (if any) would be particularly vulnerable.
This are should not be used as a living room, bedroom or study area.
If you are not going to use the northwest for the main door, then it’s a great sector to locate the master bedroom.
Lastly, this is a good house to have water features in front of the house, and mountains behind.
If there the house or apartment is facing a a water front for example, the household is going to enjoy good wealth luck. And if a mountain exist at the back, then family members would be blessed with good health and relationships.
Do note however that this guide does not take into account interior and exterior sha chi like pillars in the house or electric pylons outside the house.
If they are present, then appropriate measures need to be taken to protect the household from harm.
